Before You Buy: Deep South Beef Stew Mix
We believe customers should have all the information they need before deciding whether our Deep South Beef Stew Mix is right for them.
Could I make this myself for less?
Yes, you probably could.
If you already have rice, lentils, split peas, barley, pasta, stock powders and seasonings in your cupboard, making a similar stew from scratch may cost less per portion.
Our customers choose Deep South Beef Stew because we’ve already sourced, measured and blended the ingredients for them. No recipe planning, no measuring and no half-used packets left in the cupboard.
Why wouldn’t I just buy a tin of stew?
If you’re looking for the quickest possible meal, a tin is probably the better option.
A tinned stew is ready-made and can be heated in minutes.
Our Deep South Beef Stew Mix is designed for people who want the convenience of having all the ingredients ready to go, whilst still enjoying the flavour and satisfaction of cooking a homemade-style meal.
Do I need to soak anything?
No.
The grains and pulses have been carefully selected so they cook together without the need for soaking beforehand.
Simply add water and cook according to the instructions.
Do I need to add beef?
No.
Despite the name, the mix can be cooked with just water, a tin of chopped tomatoes and the contents of the tube.
Many customers add beef, vegetables or their own favourite ingredients, but these are optional.
What are the nutritional benefits?
Deep South Beef Stew contains a blend of grains and pulses including lentils, split peas and barley, providing fibre, protein and a hearty texture. The specific nutritional values can be found below.
It offers a different nutritional profile to many traditional tinned stews and can be adapted to suit your own dietary preferences.
What allergens does it contain?
Deep South Beef Stew contains:
• Gluten (wheat and barley)
• Celery
Please always check the product label for the latest allergen information.
Why does a tin last for years while your product lasts months?
Tinned foods are cooked, sterilised and sealed in an airtight container, usually with lots of preservatives added.
Our product is made from dried ingredients, and the shelf life is based on maintaining the quality, flavour and performance of the ingredients in the tube.
The Best Before date relates to one ingredient with the earliest best before date when we make the specific batch, all the rest of the ingredients will have later dates.
Most customers receive products with many months of shelf life remaining.
Is it seasonal?
Not at all.
Whilst it’s especially popular during autumn and winter, many customers enjoy it throughout the year as a cupboard meal, camping food, caravan meal or motorhome meal.
In the UK, its well known that we can have all 4 seasons in one day!
Can I use it for anything other than stew?
Absolutely.
Customers regularly use Deep South Beef Stew Mix to create:
• Traditional stews, served with crusty bread or a salad
• Slow cooker meals, served with mash or chips
• Add a cheesy mash top, or a pastry base and topping
• One-pot meals
• Camping meals
• Batch-cooked freezer meals
Why use a compostable tube instead of a tin?
Our plant-based compostable tubes are lightweight, easy to store and attractive enough to display in your kitchen.
They also make the product ideal for gifting, camping, caravanning and motorhome trips.
So, who is Deep South Beef Stew Mix for?
It’s perfect for people who:
✓ Want a homemade-style meal without buying lots of ingredients
✓ Enjoy cooking but don’t want the hassle of measuring everything out
✓ Need convenient cupboard meals
✓ Love eating proper meals when camping, caravanning or motorhome adventures
✓ Appreciate attractive, eco-conscious packaging

If you’re looking for a meal that’s ready in two minutes, a tin may be the better choice.
